"Charging is not supported with this Accessory"

"Charging is not supported with this Accessory" or "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone"

This could mean one of two things:
  1. You plugged your iPhone into an accessory that Apple has decided to no longer support with your current device. If the accessory doesn't send appropriate authentication code to the iPhone, or the code is not on the 'approved' list, it will display "Charging is not supported with this accessory". How to resolve this? You can't, yet, but there are some options for getting video out to other devices that are no longer supported using a program called ReSupported by Phoenix-Dev.
  2. Your device (iPhone/iPod/iTouch) has damage to it and flashes the "Charging is not supported with this accessory" over and over. This is usually caused by impact damage or fluid/ water damage to the bottom dock and can be fixed. This is caused by corrosion that builds due to moisture and spreads like a mold along copper circuitry, which when contact is made between two points that aren't intended to, the device thinks that there is an accessory is plugged into the bottom dock. If the 'accessory' doesn't send an authentication code (obviously it won't because it's just corrosion), the device rejects it as an approved device, but still thinks something is plugged in, thus the persistent "Charging is not supported with this accessory" or "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone"

  1. I have had this same problem after updating Itunes and the firmware from 3.XX to 4.X with my car DC charger, AC charger and USB cable.

I left the item plugged in and 2 hours later noticed the Iphone 3GS was still charging. There is definitely an issue here and Apple need to fix it or simply change future Apple products to work with the UNIVERSAL MICRO USB port/cables.

  2. this happened on my 2G about a week after my warrenty ran out. apple told me that it was a known issue due to air moisture and would be fixed in the next model. my 3GS is now showing the same problem about a month after warrenty has expired. starting to think its a conspiracy to make me upgrade. its a pretty good plan -nods-

  11. My iPhone 3GS was replaced with a brand new one less than 2 months ago. I get this message with every Apple original USB cable plugged into a USB socket on either pc or Mac (I've tried 4 Apple original cables). If chraging isn't supported with an original cable plugged into a Mac, then WTF. I also now get the same message with 3rd party chargers. Apple hardware is a heap of crap

  13. I have a 3GS and I am getting the same problem. If I pull the cable out a little on one side I can get it to charge. Trial and error to get it just right. It will sync with the cable plugged in all the way but not charge. I am going to try the toothbrush method. I know the cable works because it's working on my iPhone 4.

  16. Sorted
I've had this problem with car charging. with three different types of charger/transmitter. After a lot of Googling, I had a moment of inspiration. I bought A 75W Compact Mains Invertor from Maplins.
Mine has at the front a usb and a 3 pin mains outlet. I use the iphone connector cable into the USB and it works!!!
There are others cheaper available on ebay and amazon which are similar.

I expect the 3 pin outlet can be used with a laptop. I'm happy as a pig in **** as it's been a big problem for me for the past several months.

  17. Nice I also share with you something hope this helpful for you my friends Well, having seen that the board is still working and that the dock connector is somewhat usable, I went ahead and tested it on my computer. It was detected by itunes and wanted to erase the contents. That's a good sign, it means that the USB pins also work. After "combing" the pins some more to get it as straight as I could, I soldered the shield back in place.

Government Stafford understudy advances and Perkins understudy advances are respected to understudies without a credit check or co-agent. The one unprecedented case would be government Grad PLUS advances, which are credit-based graduate advances.
